Robert A. Hummer
Robert Hummer is the Howard W. Odum Distinguished Professor of Sociology and Fellow of the Carolina Population Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). He is currently Co-Director of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (with Kathleen Mullan Harris) and will assume the Director position in late 2020. He is also currently President-Elect of the Population Association of America (PAA) and will serve as PAA President in 2021. Dr. Hummer’s research focuses on the accurate description and more complete understanding of population health and mortality patterns and trends in the United States. He has published several books and about 150 journal articles and book chapters in his areas of study to date, including in journals in sociology, demography, public health, epidemiology, and medicine. In 2010, he was honored with the Clifford Clogg Award for Early Career Achievement by the Population Association of America.
