Giorgio Di Gessa
Giorgio Di Gessa is a Senior Research Fellow in Statistics & Epidemiology at UCL and a member of the scientific team of the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA). He completed his PhD in Demography at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK. He has a longstanding interest in the field of social epidemiology and gerontology, particularly in the demography and social determinants of health and wellbeing in later life. Working on ESRC-funded projects, Giorgio has investigated the health impacts of paid work in mid and later life, and of grandparenting. Dr Di Gessa has considerable expertise in working with large datasets such as ELSA and the Survey of Health, Ageing, and Retirement in Europe, and on the complex relationships between social engagement and health using longitudinal secondary data and a life-course perspective.
