************************************************************************************************************* *** "KINMATRIX: A new data resource for studies of families and kinship" (DOI: 10.4054/DemRes.2024.51.25) *** ************************************************************************************************************* The archive "demographic-research.51-25.zip" contains the code files required to reproduce the tables shown in the manuscript and for producing one additional plot. We used RStudio (2024.04.2 Build 764) with R version 4.4.0. Folder structure once archive has been unzipped: \Introducing_Kinmatrix [root folder] ├── \data │ └── kinmatrix-prepared_v02.dta [not included in zip archive] ├── describe.R ├── Introducing_Kinmatrix.Rproj ├── \plots ├── readme.51-25.txt └── \tables The code is organized within the structure of a RStudio Project and works best when you work with RStudio and by opening the corresponding .Rproj file (Introducing_Kinmatrix.Rproj) either within RStudio or by double-clicking on it. Of course, the code will also work if you do not use RStudio. Then, however, you have to ensure that your starting working directory is the root folder of this project (i.e., the folder that contains the R scripts and the .Rproj file). The input data used for this project is an internal pre-release data set of the KINMATRIX survey. The data file "kinmatrix-prepared_v02.dta" is stored in Stata's .dta format. Researchers interested in KINMATRIX can apply for early access at OSF. The full public release is scheduled for the end of 2024 and will be announced on the project’s website www.kinmatrix.eu. To replicate our analysis, you need access to this data set, store it in the sub folder "/data", and run the R script "describe.R". The tables produced by running the script will be stored in the folder "/tables". Thomas Leopold Charlotte Clara Becker Zafer Buyukkececi Beyda Çineli Marcel Raab October 2024
