The supplemental .zip archive includes a sample dataset and codes for the publication 'Between Money and Intimacy: Brideprice, Marriage, and Women's Position in Contemporary China.' The brideprice dataset used in this paper was collected from two public websites: China Judgments Online and PKUlaw. China Judgments Online (https://wenshu.court.gov.cn/) is an official website run by China's Supreme People's Court, free and open to the public. PKUlaw (or ChinaLawInfo, www.pkulaw.com) is a comprehensive legal database run by the Peking University Center for Legal Information; a subscription may be needed to access legal case details. The data collection project was reviewed and approved by the Homewood Institutional Review Board (HIRB) at Johns Hopkins University (Approval Number: HIRB00009958). HIRB approved a restricted data license, which allows the sharing of statistical analyses but prohibits the distribution of the original data to de-identify individuals. A small sample dataset, containing 1,000 random cases, is shared through 'sampled_dataset.csv.' Required software versions include Python 3.10.12, Stata 17.0, and Jupyter Lab 3.6.3. Earlier versions may not be compatible. 1. Python notebook file used to generate descriptive statistics for the brideprice dataset; results are presented in Table 1 and Table A2 of the paper. DR_describe.ipynb 2. Python notebook file that contains Stata codes and outputs for various models and estimates, including fractional regression models and calculations for average predicted brideprice repayment ratios. DR_estimates.ipynb 3. Comma-delimited data file containing 1,000 random cases from the brideprice dataset, which includes every analytic variable used in the modeling process. sampled_dataset.csv
