R codes and files associated to the paper
"The Average Uneven Mortality index: Building on the "e-dagger" measure of lifespan inequality".

R files were created using version 4.3.2
Requirements in terms of R packages are described in the preamble of each R file, along with sessionInfo() details; R codes are extensively commented.

The .zip archive contains the overall R project file "AUM_index.Rproj" along with three folders:

fun : functions
out : output data and figures
src : code to replicate analysis and visualisation

The fun folder contains two R functions for computing AUM with our proposed routines ("funs-AUM.R") and with conventional life-table routines ("funs-ineq.R").

The out folder contains output data and figures obtained from the codes in the src folder.

The src folder contains five R codes to reproduce the six figures in the manuscript ("F1+F2+F3+F4.R", "F5.R" and "F6.R") as well as the figures and table provided in the Supplementary Materials ("SM - F1+F2.R", "SM - F3+T1.R"). 

Underlying data are deaths and exposures by age and year, as well as cohort death rates and period life-table death rates. These data are downloaded at the beginning of each R script from the Human Mortality Database (2024), available at https://mortality.org/
